In April 2019, I had a dream that would change the future course for Ground & Water. I dreamt that the company was helping rural communities in Africa by drilling and installing drinking water wells. This vision stayed with me, and today, that dream will be put into action and become reality.

703 million people in the world live without clean water. That’s more than ten times the population of the UK. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep kids out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick. When a community gets access to clean water, it can change just about everything. It can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies, and help kids spend more time in school.

Every child deserves the right to an education.

584 million children don’t have clean water at school. Introducing clean water, toilets and hand-washing at schools improves health and concentration, boosting overall attendance, especially for girls.

When a community gets water, women and girls get their lives back. They can continue their education, start businesses, contribute to the economy, improve their homes, and have opportunities.

My purpose in life is to work towards Gender Equality (UN SDG 5). Clean water is a major development catalyst, that directly impacts UN SDG 5, as well as seven other SDGs.

To raise much needed funds, I will be doing a series of running events in 2024. The first two are booked in, RunThrough Crystal Palace Park 10K on the 28th Jan 2024 and the Hackney Half Marathon on the 19th May 2024.
