Water, to me, is a given. I turn on the faucet, fill up my Brita, or even buy bottled water at CVS a block away. I take long hot showers and clean all of my dishes in the sink. It quenches my thirst and keeps me clean without me thinking twice about it. But, this past year, when Hurricane Sandy hit, I was reminded in a big way that too much water can lead to devastation, no water at all leads to dehydration, and dirty water spreads disease and kills more people than any other form of violence.

This brings me to Charity:Water, an organization founded by Scott Harrison who I met during Hurricane Sandy at the projects in Chelsea where we spent the day walking up and down flights clearing out and re-stocking refrigerators for elderly people who had been stuck up in their apartments for days without electricity or plumbing. If that doesn't vouch for the founder of this fantastic organization, I don't know what will! ;)

Charity:Water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 800 million people on this planet still don't have access to clean drinking water. In sub-Saharan Africa, 16 million hours each day are spent by women collecting dirty water.

Private donors cover the operating costs so that 100% of the money we raise will directly fund water project costs in the field, and charity: water will prove every single dollar.
