Hey guys. I’m Ellie.

I just had my 10th birthday and, to be honest, the day of my birthday was a little bit weird.

I was up at Lake Burton with my whole family and a water pipe in the house burst. My grandpa had to turn off the water in the house and we went a whole day with no water. It was strange to live without access to clean water. We had to bring heavy buckets of water from the lake just to flush the toilet. It really made me think about how we take clean water for granted. It also reminded me about how important it is to help those in the world without clean water. Have you ever thought about what YOUR life would be like with out water running through your house?

I just had my 10th birthday, so this year, instead getting presents from my friends and family, I’m asking them to donate to a charity called Charity:water. You can give $20 or maybe $10 (one dollar for each year of my life) or whatever you want!

Charity:water builds water wells to help people who don’t have clean water in their country or area. If these people don’t have clean water to drink, it can cause sickness, dehydration, or sometimes even death. About a billion people in the world are living with dirty water, and every 19 seconds, a mother loses a child to a water related illness.

I did one of these fundraisers last year for my 9th birthday, and my goal was to raise 900 dollars. I actually raised $1,293 dollars and the money has already been sent out to the field so they can build wells. Thank you to everyone who donated!
