Why I'm Running for charity: water

What would you do for clean water? For the 703 million people living without it, the answer is anything. And they do: they walk miles every day, in treacherous conditions and extreme heat, just to access water that makes them sick — or worse.

That’s why I’m doing this fundraiser. charity: water challenged me to do something to help those who don't have easy access (or any access) to clean water. Their mission is simple and important, and they create real, sustainable, long term solutions.

Please support my fundraiser. Every $40 I raise will provide a lifetime of clean water to one person. Most importantly, 100% of every dollar you donate will go directly to providing the life-changing gift of clean water where it’s needed most. charity: water will even report back with details of where your money went, and how it’s helping.

I'm raising money for the NYC marathon specifically because anybody who has attended it as a spectator or participant knows how special of a day it is. It is easily my favorite day of the year in the city, and I've had the opportunity to watch everybody in my immediate family race. Super excited that this year I'll be the one taking the ferry to Staten Island, and hopefully I'll also be PR-ing.

See you in November,
Lyra

Hi everybody!

First of all, thank you so, so much for helping me hit my goal -- because of you, we raised $17,090, and we're supplying water to 427 people. I'll be thinking of you all as I run.

Second of all, I'd love to buy you a thank you drink (and hang out) at Bodega 88 post marathon.

I'll be in Blue Wave 2 Group F. You might be thinking -- wow, she's so fast. Wrong! I just put a really, really aspirational time when I signed up.

With that being said, I start at 9:45am, and I expect to run it in around 4 hours (hopefully sub 4). Given that I'll need to get out the park and shower, I'll shoot to be at Bodega 88 at 2:30pm, but it might be more like 3pm. I'll be hanging there all afternoon, and maybe I'll even put back on my tin foil cape so that everybody knows I ran.

If you do plan to watch, please email/text me to let me know where you'll be. I can give you a really sweaty high five and say something nice like "I'd like to stop doing this" or "I'm really tired".

See you all soon, and thank you!

Lyra
