I'll be 40 on September 16th.

Through my life, many of my birthdays have always been about stuff.

Some if it is great stuff. Sometimes it's stuff I don't need. It's all given with love and that's great.

But, to be honest, sometimes I hardly even remember what I got the year before.

So this year, I'm giving my birthday up.

I'm turning 40 years old, and instead of asking for gifts, I'm asking for $40 or more from everyone I know. It's not going to me, though. All of it is going to build freshwater wells for people in developing nations.

I don't know about you but I take clean water for granted. I leave the water running when I brush my teeth. I can go to my fridge and get a clean glass of water anytime I want.

Over a billion people on this planet can't do that.

A billion.

In fact, 45,000 people will die this week alone from lack of clean water.

The lucky ones won't, but they'll still walk miles to a dirty river and bring back some water in an old Valvoline oil jug.

My birthday wish this year is not for more gifts I don't need; it's to give clean and safe drinking water to some of the billion living without it. I want to make my birthday matter this year.
