Me + cancer = Charity:Water

In December 2009 I was diagnosed with Merkel Cell cancer. Surgery to remove the tumor, a skin graft, and six weeks of radiation was supposed to be final entry in the last chapter of my cancer story. Unfortunately the story had another chapter and June 12, 2010 I found out the cancer has returned and spread to my lymph nodes. So as I was sitting once again in a waiting room to discuss how extensive this surgery would be and unclear about what the post surgery cancer treatment would be, my thoughts drifted to something that was quite clear....what could be done to make a positive arise from this negative situation.

A saying came to mind: You can turn life's lemons into lemonade with the right attitude.

For laughs I looked up the recipe for real lemonade and it said 5 cups of Well Water, which immediately reminded me of learning about the Charity Water at the Catalyst conference last fall. This fantastic organization is doing some amazing work around the globe and the money they raise goes directly to well construct and administration expenses get paid through other channels.

The key ingredient for any good old fashion glass of lemonade is a whole lotta of Water and I believe in the work Charity Water is doing around the globe and hope that by sharing my story, the Turning Lemons to Lemonade Well can become a reality.

Is this something a single person can do by them self within their own network, doubtful? Have I had my doubts, you bet! A ton of doubts...stuff like: you do not have a huge community to draw from, you don't have a blog to posture this platform, and where will you find the time to manage the responsibilities of a full time job while being treated for Cancer?

But I believe in a HUGE God who makes anything possible when you have Trust & Faith in Him and put His words into action. I also believe that through you and your network we can all contribute to a greater good and make Hope available to everyone.
