Most of us have no idea what it's like not to be able to quench our thirst; we have plenty of water to drink. Yet many people around the world don’t have that luxury. In numerous developing countries, women and children walk for hours just to collect water that can make them really sick. Each day, 5,000 kids die from water-related diseases before they reach their fifth birthday.

It doesn’t have to be that way! There are simple solutions such as spring protections, drilled wells, and BioSand Filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

For the past year and a half, I have been looking for a way to help make a difference through the children’s book that I wrote and illustrated: Four Seasons in the Spring House ( http://bit.ly/springhousebook ). The story centers on animal rescue and redemption, and takes place in the Spring House of Safety in which water flows freely from one side of the house to the other. My husband and I actually live in a spring house in which water travels throughout the basement. The incredible irony of having free-flowing water all day long versus people who have to walk miles just to get unclean water inspired this campaign. When I look at our indoor spring every day, I think about the suffering around the world from the lack of clean water to drink.
