“The only time you look into your neighbor’s bowl is to make sure that they have enough.” –Louis C.K.
As I sit here at my desk writing this blurb, a drinking glass to my right holds a pint of perfectly clean water that I didn’t have to do much to obtain. Even though I was born in the mojave desert, I grew up thinking water was ubiquitous and that I would never have to worry about where the next sip would come from. In recent years I’ve become increasingly aware of the fact that there are over 784 million of my brothers and sisters that don’t have this necessity. This idea is both unfathomable, and heartbreaking. I am truly blessed to have the access and awareness I do, however, awareness is not enough—it is only the begining. It is every humans birth right to have access to this precious resource. We have to help each other out… and right now, this is the only way I know how.
Starting on August 17th I will be hiking the John Muir Trail(JMT) in attempt to fulfill a personal goal that I set for myself the moment I learned about its existence. The JMT is 210.4 miles in length with 46,700 total feet of elevation gain. The trail starts in Yosemite Valley and runs along the Sierra Nevada Mountains through Kings Canyon and Sequoia, ultimately finishing at the summit of Mt. Whitney (the highest point in the contiguous United States). I can confidently say that this will be the hardest physical task I have ever done, and the challenge is not one I am taking lightly. All that being said, I want this experience to be bigger than myself and my fears— I see it as an opportunity to help and bring awareness to a greater cause with each step I take. I believe 'charity: water' as an extremely worthy foundation and I am incredibly passionate about what they are doing.
On the trail, I will have a SPOT device which will allow my exact location to be accessed via internet by anyone with a corresponding link. So if you are interested to see my progress, you may do so! I have allotted myself 22 days to finish the trail. Thank you for your time! And I hope you can find a few spare dollars and help me raise money for this great cause. ANYTHING HELPS!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

About your donation from 'charity: water'
"Every day, 1,400 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. 100% of your donation will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, you will receive photos and GPS coordinates so you can see the exact community you helped."
Yeah!! Sorry it took so long to donate :( you hit your goal!!
You did it!
Sarah! In a truly great way you inspired direct change for the better in our world. You did this at the same time as being an awesome beast of a human and kicking ass out in the wild. Congratulations on conquering the JMT. Love you sis!
