There is a water crisis, because water changes everything. Let's be part of the solution!
Going to school in America, I constantly revisit the conversation of Ramadan with my non-Muslim friends. They ask me when we fast. I say, sunrise to sunset. They ask me how many days. I say, for the entire month of Ramadan. They confirm, okay, so no food from sunrise to sunset for about 30 days, but at least you have water. I say, no, no water either.
And that's when the jaws drop.
So what makes people so shocked about the fact that Muslims abstain from drinking water during this time? They don't express nearly as much surprise for fasting from food.
This is because: water. is. everything.
We drink water. We use water to wash our hands. We use water to clean our bodies. We use water for recreation. In this country, we don't really have to worry about water.
If I don't stay hydrated during Ramadan, especially during the summer, I know I feel parched. I feel exhausted. I feel weak, but I know that at sunset every evening, my fast is over. Unfortunately, not everyone has that luxury.
Nearly 1 billion people on this planet live without clean drinking water, but we can help lower this number.
I jump-started the project with a donation of $50.00. Any help at all is appreciated!! Let us show that there is so much more to fasting than extravagant iftars. Let us take what we have learned from our fasts and use it to help the world. For those who are not fasting, this goes for you too! We all live on the same planet, and humanity is nothing if we don't stand up for each others' basic human rights.
Hello! Since all of the donors are anonymous, I could not reach any of you directly, but I hope this email reaches your inboxes safely. :) Please check out the project profile to see how your donation back in 2015 helped the Mankhokwe Community in Malawi gain access to clean water!
