Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!
When my 8 year old daughter Rachel heard about this injustice 5 years ago, it struck a chord inside her. She couldn't believe that there were people, even children her own age, who didn't have access to something as basic as clean drinking water. Something she never had to think twice about. If she was thirsty, her needs could be met right away.
But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
Starting a fundraising campaign for her 9th birthday to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, was a natural decision for her. Unfortunately she wasn't able to see the incredible impact she made.
This past June would have been her 14th birthday. In the last 5 years, she has raised over $1.4 million dollars and served over 37,000 people all over the globe. I can think of no better way to keep her legacy alive than to continue raising money for a cause that inspired her so genuinely.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
