Honoring my grandpa's 91st birthday by giving others clean water

My Grandpa would have turned 91 this year on February 27th.

At his memorial service in January, my uncle shared a story my grandpa told him that was very touching to me.

My Grandpa was born in 1923 and grew up during the Great Depression, and his family experienced a great deal of hardship during that time. He told my uncle during a time of water shortages he and his brother had to hitch up two horses to a cart. They placed a big tank on the cart and drove it down into a pond to fetch water to take back to their house. This water was used by their whole family for cooking, cleaning, bathing and even drinking (after being boiled). As he drank a cold bottle of water, my grandpa told my uncle they never could have imagined a day when they could go to the refrigerator and get a cold bottle of water!

Today, around the world, 800 million people still lack a reliable supply of clean, safe drinking water and many walk many miles a day to fetch dirty water from ponds and river, just like my grandpa did as a young boy, in order to provide water for their families.

In honor of my Grandpa's 91st birthday I am raising money to bring safe drinking water to those who still live without it. Please join me in celebrating his birthday. Every penny we raise will go to water projects.
