Football season. That most wonderful time of the year when your Sundays are spent glued to the couch, yelling and screaming at the TV as your quarterback hands off on 3rd and 8 (c’mon McAdoo), while you also keep an eye on your iPad where you're streaming Red Zone so you can see if the backup to the starting RB on your fantasy team is vulturing a touchdown.
Yep, fantasy football makes everything better - it’s science. And the only thing better than watching that sleeper pick you made score two touchdowns to help you take the week and give you bragging rights, is also knowing that it is helping improve someone’s life for the better. That’s what the ‘Friends of Charity:Water’ DFS league is about.
Every week, members of the league play in a Daily Fantasy contest where they draft a team and see who’s team scores the most points. They pay an entry fee of $10 (please note that this is a weekly entry fee). Half of all entry fees collected will get divided between the top 2 teams for that week, with the winner getting to enjoy lording their superiority over the rest of the league. The other half of all entry fees will get donated to Charity:water, a wonderful organization dedicated to making sure everyone has access to clean water. 100% of the money it receives in donations is used to fund clean water projects that need it the most, and it provides full transparency of how the money is spent.
This means that those hours of fun and frustration we spend putting together our lineups and then watching it blow up (the good way or the bad way) on Sunday will also be changing someone's life - helping a mom spend time with her kids instead of walking miles to get water from a pond, keeping a baby from getting sick or dying because he's drinking dirty water, or allowing a child to go to school and play with friends instead of carrying a heavy pot of water on her head for over 2 hours.
So join us. Turn your passion for daily fantasy football into a force for good. Become a member of the league and show off both your football smarts and your heart. Details and rules about the league can be found at http://demerzelsechoes.com/DFSforCharityWater. To become a member, tweet me or send me a direct message on Twitter at @NishantK, or fill out the form available on the rules page, so I can invite you to the league.
Because having access to clean water shouldn’t be a fantasy.
This is the donation for the Week 17 contest. Since the campaign closes on the night of 12/31, the day before the final week of the season, I am making the donation now, and will add the week 17 result as an update later.
Week 16: My Adam Is Better Than Your Adam -- So not only did Mike win Week 16, marking the 2nd time he has won (I had blocked the memory of the first win from my mind, only to be rudely reminded of it just now), he won it by crushing the rest of us. His 198.98 is the highest score anyone has notched all year. Truly the evil sorcery of this pagan holiday weekend at work. Good show by Rohit despite being all the way on the other side of the world.
Week 15: His Le’Vownership Was Not High -- So in week 15, the Adam's made all the difference at the top. Brian narrowly beat out Rajeev on the basis of his Adam (Humphries) actually scoring points, while Adam (Thielen) let Raj down. And with that, Brian gets his first 1st place of the season, I believe. Congrats.
Week 14: When It Dwaynes It Pours -- Says something about us as a collective that we follow up missing Julio's 51 point effort in week 4 by missing LeVeon's 55 point effort this week. Interestingly enough, it is Cary that emerged victorious in each of these contests. Congrats to him and Heather for taking the top spots this week.
