On February 14th, I'm turning 27.
If you really knew me, you'd know I weirdly hate odd numbers. So I'd rather skip 27 and go straight to 28.
But what's more upsetting than odd numbers or officially entering my "late 20s" is that millions of people don't live to see their fifth birthdays. And why? Because they don't have access to clean, safe water.
I volunteered at the charity: ball this year and was floored by the consequences of unclean water. (watch video to the right)
Rather than doing the impossible and skipping 27, I am skipping any birthday gift or party and I'm asking you donate to charity : water -- and every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund clean water projects in developing nations.
Even better, charity: water will show us exactly which projects we funded once they've been fully completed (which takes about 18 months). That means we'll be able to see the communities we've helped!
Think of it this way:
$5 = Birthday Card
$10 = Birthday Drink
$27 = Birthday Dinner
My goal is to raise $540 by my birthday, giving clean water to 27 people, representing each blessed year.
Thanks for helping me celebrate!
It's never too late to give, right?? HLB! :)
Happy Birthday! So Proud of you! Better late than never!
Happy Birthday, Meredith!
