Around this time every year I remember my birthday is coming up. I think of the things I want, usually things I wouldn't be able to afford, but someone might think they could squeeze into their budget for my birthday. Sometimes it's things I think I shouldn't even get because they're just outrageous. I started thinking about "donating" my birthday a couple weeks ago, and as time passed it started getting more difficult to do so. I kept seeing and thinking of things I could use, want and didn't want until I saw it.
I gave in to the part of me that wants to trust God to take care of me, all my wants and needs even when that means doing something beyond me, my desires and understanding. I gave in to the part that doesn't want my life to be about me or stuff I have. One of the best things about this donation is being able to help provide for clean water. Water. "Drink 8 glasses a day." Shower (for 20 minutes, if you're me). Cook. Clean. Walk miles and miles to get contaminated water and carry it back to your family. Everyday.
Charity for me this year isn't just about giving (monetary) help, but about getting over myself to trust God to do amazing things (for me and the people we'll be helping). For my 28th birthday, charity:water. Be a part of my life change as we give together. Be a part of the life change that will happen when people have clean water.
