As soon as we realize what enough looks like, we instantly become rich.
Picture living your life without ever using a drop of clean water. Hard to imagine, right? I just returned from a trip to Ethiopia with charity: water and the visible difference between the villages with and without clean water was astounding. At times, it was difficult to absorb what I was witnessing first-hand and I felt numb to the emotion. In my 33 years, I’d never seen anything even close to this. My full experience, photos and recap is here: http://amyjomartin.com/2013/learning-what-enough-looks-like/
The people in the villages that had clean water were visibly healthier, happier and more alive. A 76-year old village elder who had just gotten clean water in his village told us he never felt younger. This was a man who has lived 76 years with unclean water and competed with animals for the same dirty water. He also said the children had much more energy now that they had access to clean water. As if they had a new lease on life.
This problem is solvable, and we can all do our bit to help. So as my 34th birthday approaches (July 5th), I want to celebrate differently and will be hosting a month-long fundraising event which kicks off in Downtown Las Vegas on Sunday June 30th (see below for details), but I don’t want presents or drinks. I want clean water. We've even renamed the venue for the night from Commonwealth to CommonWell!

My target of $10,000 will provide clean water to over 250 people for the rest of their lives. The best part is that 100% of the money we raise will directly fund charity: water projects around the world, and when those projects are complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the impact we made. I can't think of a better birthday gift.
In addition, and for those of you who want to get involved but can't make the party, every time someone around the world uses the #CommonWell hashtag on twitter or instagram an extra dollar will be donated by myself and some of my closest friends that i've dubbed the "Well Diggers".
Regardless of who we are, we all have one thing in common; we have the opportunity do good and do well.
My Birthday Party Campaign Kick-off!
