I know what half of you are thinking - "Another charity birthday". Yes, it has been done before...but can it really be overdone? And the other half is probably looking at the campaign name and thinking, "What in the world is a 'Life Water Lion'?" With a mix of translations, it means Cansu Arslan. Seriously! So, quite naturally, I was immediately drawn to this campaign.

It'll be the 3rd anniversary of my 21st birthday on March 6. And if your birthdays are similar to mine, you're probably receiving gag gifts from your jokester friends which end up collecting dust in the closet. Instead of adding to the closet clutter this year, I would love to divert the monetary value of my potential gifts to help fund clean water projects in developing countries where 5,000 kids die every day from water-related illnesses...before they reach their fifth birthday.

My goal is $1,000 - that's clean water for 50 people. I am asking for a "suggested donation" of $24 (a dollar for every fabulous year of life), but any amount will bring us closer to helping people gain access to clean, safe drinking water. I would also like to exceed my goal if possible. At the end of the campaign, charity: water will show us which projects we helped fund with the locations and names of the communities.
