This is a cause that's close to my heart, for two reasons:
1. It's absolutely one of the BEST ways to make a huge difference. Having traveled a lot in Africa, I've seen what it means for a community to have clean water -- and what it means when they don't. Access to clean water creates a snowball effect of great things, including giving more girls access to school (because they don't have to spend their entire day fetching water). If you want to give back, this is a smart way to do it.
2. My Cameroonian host family, who I've stayed with on two occasions, suffered from a water-related illness outbreak this year. (Here's one of the posts I've written about them: http://alexisgrant.com/2012/09/05/what-im-doing-with-my-100-from-wds2012/.) When you see this issue affecting people who are like family, it really hits home.
I feel so fortunate to spend my days thinking not about how to meet my basic needs, but about how to follow my dreams. Let's make it possible for other people and communities to do that, too.
Thanks for joining us!
Oh, and if you give at least $32, I'll give you a free copy of my guide on how to turn your side gig into your full-time job ($47 value): http://alexisgrant.com/self-employment. That's how much I want you to get involved! (Just forward your receipt to alexiskgrant@gmail.com, and I'll send you the guide.)
Very noble of you, well done.
happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! And thank you for writing "How to take a Career Break to Travel"!!!
Great idea, Alexis! I've done some work with Blood:Water Mission in Uganda and Kenya and have seen how important these projects are.
