I had a friend show me a picture this summer. On it was a white woman squatting down to speak to an African child. On his face was the most sincere look of confusion I have ever seen. The caption read, “You have so much water that you poop in it?” Of course, this picture was meant to make the reader laugh, but I could not get out of my mind the ridiculous amount of clean water we practically throw away. That kind of inequality is what drives me. It drives me to learn more about the efforts in providing clean drinking water to developing communities, effects these efforts might have on the environment, and what it is in the first place that is making the water so harmful. The inequality burns me up inside, honestly, and that frustration is behind my passion for getting clean drinking water to those who need it.

So pretend this is my birthday, and you and I and all of our friends are going out to a local bar to celebrate. Instead of an IPA, buy me a cup of water. Better yet, help me buy a well.
