Malawi

Malawi is one of Africa's most densely populated and least developed countries. Most people live in rural areas where water is scarce. As a result, many women and children spend hours of their day walking to collect it.

Malawi is among the worst hit in the long-running drought in Southern Africa caused by El Nińo. Since 80% of the population is employed in agriculture, the effects of the drought are particularly pervasive.

Kids in Malawi face a high risk of malnutrition and water-related disease before they reach the age of five. Access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation can drastically reduce both risks.
