Hi Friends and Family!

So, it's going to be my 21st birthday... on April 21st... in the 21st century! I thought it would be ultra-cool to use this momentous day to help supply 21 people with water.

The way this works is instead of buying me a gift for my birthday, you simply donate to "charity:water". 100% of the donations go to funding water projects. After it's all done, "charity:water" will tell us where the money went and how it was all spent. To reach my goal of bringing water to 21 people I need a total of about $1,365.

I usually love receiving gifts, but I took an inventory of my life and realized that I have way way more than enough. There are so many people in this world that have birthdays that go unnoticed and uncelebrated. Shoot, there are so many people that don't even have enough to sustain themselves and lack the most basic necessity of water!

Why don't we take this opportunity to turn the tables around and give a small gift to cool people who actually need it.

P.S. (Just for your information: Water is one of the biggest health issues around the world. Many developing communities lack a source of clean water. (The Pacific Institute 2007 noted that 1/3 of the world's population lacks clean water.) As a result, people in those communities drink water tainted with parasites and animal waste and consequentially contract water-borne diseases. In fact, according to the 2006 Human Development Report, unclean water and sanitation are the second leading causes of child death.)
