Hello Friends and Family,
It’s almost my birthday, and to celebrate the time I’ve spent on this beautiful planet, I wanted to do something special; to make it a habitual space for a few people across the world.
I don’t know what specifically attracts me to charity: water; perhaps it’s the charity’s 100% transparency standard on how they use their money, or it’s because I know how good a clean cold drink of water can feel. But many of us have no idea what it's like to be truly thirsty. I remember once feeling like I was going to dehydrate while biking around Prospect Park. I remember biking up the hill in 105 degree weather, and seeing a black tunnel closing in. Suddenly I was on the floor besides my bike, waking from a blackout, begging my friend to get me water. While I sat panting on the floor, my senses fuzzing in and out, I brought myself back from panic. My friend will be back in ten minutes. If not, I can call for help; or ask another cyclist or runner for a hand. As scared as I was to feel so weak in such crowded place, I knew I wasn’t hopeless.
But many people around the world don’t have that luxury.
663 million people in the world live without clean water.
That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. I’ve been a member of charity:water’s Spring for a while, which is a commitment of a monthly donation to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world. I started this birthday campaign to spread awareness of this organization so that you can join with me.
Charity: water’s transparency policy means that 100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so YOU can see the exact community YOU helped!!!
Come celebrate my birthday with me! Anything you give will help💧
