Please donate $12 to my Twelve for Twelve campaign, helping to solve the water crisis in honor of my 12th birthday.
Almost an entire year ago, I was tasked with finding an influential figure to study, passing the information on through a bibliographical essay and a short performance as the person in a "Living Museum."
After a plethora of options, a multitude of refusals, and my teachers' exasperation, I settled on a young man of forty, Scott Harrison, the founder of charity: water. Immediately, I was inspired, awed, and enthralled by his stirring speeches, tear-jerking stories, and the lucidity, the truth of his cause.
Now, with the arrival of my twelfth birthday, I decided confidently that this is what I want: the ability, the privilege, the honor to give a portion of the 748 million people without clean drinking water relief from their plight.
Because that is what they suffer through, a plight: too practical for optimism and yet too hopeful for admitting defeat. They walk, alone and endangered, for miles -- all for a resource we take for granted. Water. A resource that seems so endless and in the same instant so dwindling, so tiny; a resource that is so unvalued in the places that can give and so sought after, so needed, in the places that can't; a resource that truly is invaluable to human life.
I know that 100% of the funds I raise will go to building this well. It is such an exciting prospect; if I can meet -- perhaps even exceed -- my goal of $120, a well will be built for those in need. We will even be able to see who and where we help with charity: water's tracking program. I want to help those in need, I want to give the opportunity of clean water to the people who need it most. 1 out of every 6 people don't have access to clean water; a sixth of our population lack one of the basic necessities.
Today alone, 4,500 children will die from lack of clean water and the diseases the water they drink carries. I have been fortunate enough to be provided with clean water for all eleven -- soon to be twelve -- years of my life. I would be so grateful if you would donate my age in dollars to my birthday campaign, bettering the lives of others. A magazine once stated, "Under the scorching sun of this place, and others like it -- places so dry that even the ground cracks from thirst -- Scott Harrison haas just made it rain." You can't have a downpour without raindrops.
Help me in my mission to supply a raindrop.
Great job Skyar!!!
Skylar: Keep up the good work. Happy Birthday
