This year I'm celebrating my birthday differently, and I would like a present from you... Clean water.

Some of you have heard me talking about water and how I care about projects which increase access to clean water around the world.
I have done some research and have become really interested in the work charity: water does. It's a very highly rated non-profit organization and I invite you to read up and see how their projects empower communities through water-related projects.

Women and children around the world walk hours every day to collect water for their families. But the worst part of it is that the water they collect can make them really sick. Every day, 5,000 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday.

We can actually do something about it. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. Just $20 can give a person clean water to drink.
Better access to clean water doesn't only dramatically improve the chances of living in a cleaner and healthier environment, but in most cases also specifically empowers women as it allows them to spend the time working and contributing to their families and communities instead of spending long hours collecting water.

100% of every dollar you donate to my birthday campaign will be used to build clean water projects in developing countries. charity: water funds their operating costs separately through a group of private donors, so 100% of all public donations will go directly to people in need.
When those projects are complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the impact we made. I can't think of a better birthday gift.
