This September charity: water is focusing on the people of India. Joe Madiath, the founder of Gram Vikas (a local water and sanitation program) said:

“There is the dominant thinking that poor people should have poor solutions….The Gram Vikas program of water and sanitation is a game changer. It restores the dignity of women. It brings unity in the village. [the] Water and sanitation program creates an enabling environment so that all aspects of development can take place. For us, water and sanitation is a vehicle for eliminating exclusion.”

Clean water will help accomplish many things, including:

1- Empowering Women. Piped water at home relieves the burden on women and gives them time to improve their lives.
2- Social Equality. Working a water project together creates a sense of equality and community in villages.
3- Healthier Kids. Household toilets and bathing rooms restore health and cleanliness to every family.
