Imagine if you had no clean water. Imagine walking hours to the nearest river to collect water for your family -- water that’s not even clean. Imagine giving that water to your kids.

While this might seem unimaginable to us, it's a reality for 800 million people in developing countries. Every day, 5,000 children die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

Sailthru and Automattic’s goal is to bring people together to fund The People’s Well and give a community in need clean water.

We kicked off The People's Well water project with a Party for the People during SXSW Interactive in Austin by matching all birthday pledges made that night with a $10 donation to the well. We were thrilled to have 300 people pledge their birthday during the event (resulting in a donation of $3,000 to the well), but that's just the beginning. We are now hoping that you - the people – will continue to help us raise the additional $7,000 needed to make The People's Well a reality and bring clean water to community in need. To do this, you can donate any amount directly to the campaign or share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc. to help spread the word.

100% of the money will be used to build The People’s Well, and when it’s complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
