I don’t know what it’s like be thirsty with virtually no access to clean water. I’ve always known the blessing of clean water at the turn of a faucet handle. You probably have, too.

663 million people worldwide don’t share this reality. About 1,400 children die everyday from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. This boggles my mind and breaks my heart.

This December 23rd, I turn 29. I’ve never made a big deal about my birthday. But this year, I’m going to. I’ve had a good year. But the few years preceding 2015 were some really tough years for Kristin and I. Those difficult years eventually gave way to a deep sense of love and gratitude. I call this "resurrection". The old becoming new. The dead becoming alive. Our present sufferings becoming our great hope. And I feel compelled to do something special and tangible with this "alive-ness" inside of me.

So for my 29th birthday, I’m setting out to raise $2900 to bring clean water to communities in need. I’m asking family and friends to donate to my Birthday Charity Water Campaign instead of buying gifts. And here’s the deal — I’m not asking for a lot from anyone. Just a little from everyone. I’d love to see lots of $10 donations as opposed to a few $100 donations. Nothing super sacrificial.
