Excessive alcohol use is the 3rd leading lifestyle-related cause of death for people in the United States each year.

Binge drinking = 5 or more drinks during a single occasion for men or 4 or more drinks during a single occasion for women -- (CDC).

We are too rich for the poor. There are more people dying from the lack of clean water then wars. One in Eight do not have access to clean water. 4500 children will die today because of water related diseases. (80% of all diseases make up water-related diseases.)

The solution is right in front of us. We can no longer excuse ourselves because of our ignorance because Americans are realizing that through networking, media, and some pretty cool people, we can make a really BIG difference.

A donation of $20.00 to charitywater can supply 1 person with clean water for 20 years. 1 well can supply a whole community of 400 people for 20 years.

I hate it. There is an unsettling divide between us and the rest of the world. We are consuming excess amounts of alcohol when a billion people in the world, most under the age of 5 are dying because they are drinking from contaminated and muddy waters. Who is responsible? We die because we drink poison willingly.There is something really wrong here. It was December, and now January, of course it calls for a celebration. But what the heck are people really celebrating?

So here is my proposition to you and for the New Year. Donate $20 for every $10 you spend on drinks. Oh and this certainly does not inhibit others who don't drink from donating. Here is to 2010, Cheers!
