Dear family and friends,

Last night, Evan and I (his mom) happened to read a story about Cheru. She is 5 years who walks over 4 miles a day under the scorching sun to get water for her family. On the way home from school, she takes a 3 hour walk to the water source, hand-digs the dirt to create a pool and scoops it into her kettle. The worst part is that the water she brings home on the 3 hour walk is contaminated, which makes her sick with diarrhea and headache. After reading her story, Evan said, "We can't mail our clean water in the envelope. It will get wet and drip away. That just sounds silly. But, I can send all my money in the piggy bank, so she can have clean water and don't have to walk".

This is how we started talking about also using all his birthday money to help these kids (and the entire community of theirs), so they could stay healthy and use those hours of walk enjoying their childhood instead. Evan already has too much, enough books and toys for our small apartment. He won't need anything for his 6th birthday - except for seeing kids like Cheru have better life by having nearby clean water source.

There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

We started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me, as little as $1, $5 or more.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
