For women in the Sahel, the first step out of poverty begins with clean water. We can help!

Not having access to clean water means hours of painful and exhausting work. Many of women walk miles each day just to reach the 100-year-old hole in the ground where they collect water. And they make that trip four or five times. Not only is that water contaminated and dirt-colored, but it has to be pulled up by hand, one bucket at a time.

But we can change all of that!

We can bring solar powered pumps into communities and pipe water to tap stands right next to these women’s homes. We can bring time, energy and a better future to 100,000 people in Mali and Niger.

100% of everything we raise will directly fund water projects. And when those projects are finished, charity: water will send us proof in pictures and GPS coordinates, so we can see the actual people and communities we impacted.

While it’s impossible for me to know and feel the true burden the women in the Sahel region endure each day when they collect water, I want to try in a very, very small way to get a sense of it. During my campaign, I’ll fill a jerry can with water, and walk with it. It won’t be miles at a time. I hope it’s more than twice. The plan - to walk over a bridge or two, around the Croton Dam, maybe down the Old Croton Aqueduct trail. If it weren’t for water, that we’re so fortunate to have, the bridges, the dam, the aqueduct, wouldn’t exist. For those of you that know me, I walk as a form of exercise. Doing it with a heavy jerry can will be interesting but I'm up for the challenge. If you want to join the journey and maybe even carry the can, give a shout!
