My fiftieth birthday is around the corner. I know: the hell you say. You seem to act a lot younger, you say. Pah shaw you say. It just means that I'm mature enough to know what's important in life. Keeping track of a number that, as we all know, doesn't apply to the person writing this (currently wearing a Marvel tee-shirt) isn't one of the things to worry about. This year I've been inspired by a celebrity's campaign (guess who's) to raise money for this worthy cause and organization. I'm asking all my friends, family, Tweeps, Browncoats, and FanFic family to donate to charity: water and give clean water to people who need it. THIS is something important.

Almost a billion people on the planet don't have access to clean drinking water? This fact blows me away. I have taken the gift of clean health-some water for granted, selfishly, without thought every time I've turned on the tap.

Every day, 2,200 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. This fact disgusts me. It doesn't have to be this way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. charity: water provides the vital services AND their people are awesome.

100% of every dollar you donate to my birthday campaign will be used to build clean water projects in developing countries. charity: water funds their operating costs separately through a group of private donors, so 100% of all public donations will go directly to people in need.
