Why Share the light! is fundraising for clean water

Share the Light!
Hi! My name is Moussie Berkowitz. I’m 12 years old, and I live in Brooklyn. Please join me and help me out in my Bat-Mitzvah project of ‘SHARE THE LIGHT’.

Please read this note until the end to learn about my project and goal and how you can join me.

Since I was 3, every Friday night right before sunset, my mother, sisters, and I gather around the dining room table to light candles in honor of Shabbat.

We light the Shabbat candles to bring peace and light into our home and lives. We must then use the peace and light that the Shabbat candles bring into our home and lives and ‘SHARE THE LIGHT’ with the whole world!

Right before we light the candles, my whole family ‘including the boys’ drop a few coins into the charity box.
In our home we have 4 charity boxes. One is for a wedding fund for poor brides, another is for our school, the third is for Colel Chabad that helps the poor and hungry in Israel with food, shelter and clothing, and last but not least – a charity box that is actually an empty water bottle, to bring clean water to the 800 million people in need of it around the world.

Did you know that every single day almost 5,000 children under the age of 5 die of diseases that they sadly get because they don’t have any clean water? Did you know that mostly women and girls are affected by this problem?

I also learned and know that WE can solve this terrible problem.

Recently, Scott and Vik Harrison were guests in our home in Brooklyn for a Shabbat dinner. They run Charity Water, an amazing organization that raises money from thousands of people.

Charity Water then uses the money to build water projects including wells, water filtration systems in communities that don’t have clean water in places such as sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America.

My Bat-Mitzvah project is to ‘SHARE THE LIGHT’ by inspiring at least 120 girls and women around the world to start lighting the Shabbat candles on Friday night, and put a few coins beforehand in a charity box to the charity of your choice.

In return, I want to ‘SHARE THE LIGHT’ of my Shabbat candle, by bringing clean water to at least 12 girls and women in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America.

For less then $50, you can bring clean water for a year to one women or girl who will die without it, and will live because of it.

I hope to raise at least $580 to ‘SHARE THE LIGHT’ of my Shabbat candle and save the lives of at least 12 women and girls.

When I will next light my candle on Friday night and will cover my eyes to share that special private moment with G-D, In addition to praying for myself and my family, I will pray for the good health and success for those who will join me in my Bat Mitzva 'SHARE THE LIGHT' project.

Every one of you counts!
Please help me “SHARE THE LIGHT!” Thank you very much!
