Yellow Thunder

Deployed May 2012

Thousands of you joined the 2011 September Campaign to fund a drilling rig fleet so our local partners in Ethiopia could drill more wells. We promised when the rig was on the ground, we'd track it on a map and show you proof of it in action. We are currently upgrading our systems, the map tracking this rig will return soon.

See the rig and meet the drillers

Check out some of our favorite photos from the field as the rig brings clean water to villages in northern Ethiopia. We put the names of each fundraiser who raised $5,000 or more on the side of the rig. They'll travel with it for years to come!

Watch us drill the first well!

On February 27, 2012, Yellow Thunder broke ground drilling its first well in Merara Village, Ethiopia. Hours into the drill, we hit a massive aquifer of pure ground water. Watch the video to see what happened.

Yellow Thunder can drill 80 wells and give water to 40,000 people.Every year.

Our local partner in Ethiopia, Relief Society of Tigray (REST), plans to serve 100% of northern Ethiopia with access to clean water. Their strategy includes many water solutions: drilled wells, hand-dug wells and spring protections, to name a few. We want to help them reach the target number of drilled wells sooner, which will speed up their plan to provide everyone with clean water.

The remainder of the cost of this project was funded by individual donations for a total of $3,542.18
