So, I have to admit: I feel weird asking for presents. I don't like gift registries. I believe in choosing things for the people we love that we think will delight them and bring them joy.

But if you're reading this, you're one of the folks I count as a friend, and you know what? We're so blessed. And what I really want to do this year is to celebrate the 34 wonderful years of life I've been given so far by sharing a little of that.
This year, if you're curious what I'd like for my birthday: I want clean water.

Women and children around the world walk hours every day to collect water for their families - water that makes them really sick. The kids spend more time dragging dirty water than they do in school. This is not one of those insoluble, perplexing problems. We just need to pay attention and get busy. Just $20 gives one person clean water to drink.

100% of the money we raise will directly fund water projects around the world. When those projects are complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the impact we made. I can't think of a better birthday gift.
